High School Math Teacher
Many districts come about technology in a way similar to "Now that I have all these _______ (insert technology item here) , what do I do with them?" At Wood River Rural Schools, a plan was developed to assist in guiding teachers with this dilemma. Some professional development was offered interspersed through district wide PLC meeting days. It was great exposure but difficult to gauge and engage the whole staff. Enter the wonders of weekly teacher tech.
My technology journey began with, "What will I do with an iPad?", when my lightbulb went off that this medium allows for many more options. In the past 3 years I have had a different teacher tech leader each year. I have learned how to push my High School mathematics classroom to include less paper through multiple mediums. Schoology has been a great investment for our building and serves as our Learning Management System. Modeling Schoology and having us classroom teachers experience many available tools as a student and then as the teacher has been beneficial for our building. This year we began to add a focus on BlendEd and have experienced a few different types of classroom models within our time together. Mr. Zessin has flipped our professional development at times, had us participate in rotation models, create videos for classes, and obviously more. Each week has an explicit focus for our 15 minutes and we are never asked to do anything he has not done himself. *enjoyed the slow turn video*
Teacher Tech is a worthy use of our time and helps us utilize technology more consistently. We are fortunate to have a leadership team and enjoy the time to interact, collaborate with and learn from our peers.
